"An apple a day keeps the doctors away" so the saying goes. Truth? I think so. Make the right choices about food and you can have a happier, healthier life.
To start off this blog, I should set the stage for why I'm writing it and what will be in it. There are few things we can truly control in this world. What we choose to eat is luckily one of them, if you let it be a good thing. Food is your life in the sense that it affects your mental, physical and social state.
A great meal can make you happy, bring back memories, or be a moment of discovery that something so wonderful can exist. A piece of delicious chocolate can make you forget about the heartache of a break up, even if it's just for a moment. And that perfect cup of coffee is a perfect kick start to a good day.
Now I am no health nut, I consume my fair share of chocolate, alcohol, and deep fried goodies. Throwing all those delicious options out the window is a bit extreme for me, and only leads to unfulfillable desires-not good for the soul. Life is too short to completely forgo wonderful things just in case bad consequences MAY arise in the future. But I do believe that what we choose to eat has consequences, so balance is key. One of the goals in writing this blog is to keep myself on track, kick some bad habits and really start practicing the good ones I know I should.
I love cooking and hosting dinner parties. It's such a great opportunity to make something great and share it with people you love. Food is a way for people to connect between cultures. Good food has no boundaries of who you are or where you're from, somehow the good stuff can break through those lines. There's just something special when you and another person can truly appreciate the same thing.
I say all this great stuff about food, but everything good is balanced by its bad sides. As a great meal can brighten your mood, a bad meal can worsen a bad situation. And choosing to eat healthy balanced with time constraints and costs can be more frustrating than it seems worth sometimes. Food can bring a commonality but can push people apart or become judgemental of other people's choices. So if you let it, food can get the worst of you. But I'm not going to let it. Why let something I have complete control of steer my life in a negative way? Sometimes we forget how important things are when we start getting lost in the shuffle of life, so I'm using this blog to create focus for myself. Setting goals I know I can meet, I just have to do it.
